The Tasmanian School Psychologists Association (TSPA) was delighted to host psychologist, Renée Valentino, for a two-day professional learning workshop focused on the practical application of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) with children and adolescents.
Designed for school psychologists, counsellors, and other professionals working with young people, the workshop explored how DBT can be used to support emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and resilience in educational settings. Through a combination of experiential learning, practical activities, case examples, and reflection, participants developed confidence in teaching and applying DBT skills in both individual and group contexts.
Renée shared her extensive experience working across schools, community mental health services, and private practice, providing attendees with practical strategies for adapting DBT to the realities of school-based practice. Participants also received a comprehensive resource manual containing session plans, worksheets, handouts, and implementation guidance to support ongoing use of DBT skills in their work.
The workshop provided a valuable opportunity for professionals from across Tasmania to learn alongside colleagues, strengthen their clinical skills, and explore evidence-based approaches to supporting young people experiencing emotional and behavioural challenges.
